How to Share Google Docs/Sheets with a Link
Quick guide to sharing Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides with anyone using a shareable link.
Need to share a Google Doc, Sheet, or Slide with someone? Here’s how to create a shareable link in under a minute.
Step 1: Open Your Document
Go to drive.google.com and open the document you want to share.
Step 2: Click the Share Button
Look for the Share button in the top-right corner of the screen. It’s usually blue.
Click it to open the sharing settings.
Step 3: Change Link Settings
In the sharing window, look for the section that says General access (it might say “Restricted” by default).
Click Restricted and change it to:
- Anyone with the link – Anyone who has the link can access the document
Step 4: Choose Permission Level
Select what people can do with the document:

| Viewer | View only, no changes |
| Commenter | View and add comments |
| Editor | Full editing access |
Choose Viewer if you just want people to see it. Choose Editor if you need them to make changes.
Step 5: Copy the Link
Click Copy link to copy the shareable URL to your clipboard.
Click Done to close the sharing window.
Step 6: Send the Link
Paste the link in an email, text, or chat to share it with anyone.
The link looks something like:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/abc123.../edit?usp=sharing

Tips
- For sensitive documents: Keep it as “Restricted” and add specific email addresses instead
